Rosh Hashanah

Ahead of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which starts at sunset on 2nd October, the children at Hilden Oaks have been learning about and celebrating this religious festival.

Form 1 learnt that it gives thanks for the world, people, fruit trees and animals. The children took part in the Apple Blessing, by dipping apples in honey and saying, 'Shanah Tova' to wish each other a sweet New Year. They drew pictures to say how they were going to be 'the best me I can be' during this school year.

Meanwhile, Form 2 have been looking at the Jewish story of Creation. They found out that Rosh Hashanah celebrates 'the birthday of the world' as part of Jewish New Year celebrations. As well as taking part in the Apple Blessing, they also found out about forgiveness - or how to say 'Teshuva' ('return to your best self') when someone apologises to you.
