Our aim at Hilden Oaks is for all of our children to grow to become active and positive contributors to the digital world. We strive to provide opportunities for pupils to experience and become proficient with numerous types of devices, operating systems and apps.
All of our pupils have access to their own iPad. We also regularly allow pupils to use laptops.
Here are some examples of elements from our curriculum:
E-safety
We begin each academic year by revisiting E-safety in an age-appropriate manner.
Pre-Prep children consider who their ‘trusted adults’ are – people who they can turn to if they need help online. The children then use a digital paint program to draw their trusted adult.
In Prep, the children begin to learn about more detailed aspects of E-safety such as cyberbullying, phishing and plagiarism. They then present their knowledge using ICT. For example, in Form 5 the children design, create and animate a short program providing E-safety advice, and Form 6 have also created their own short E-safety advice videos. Digital Literacy
Children across the school practise using word processing, presentation and spreadsheet programs.
Touch Typing
Children in Prep regularly use touch typing software to hone their typing skills!
Coding
Children across the school are taught to code. This begins with block coding.
The children use block coding to gradually progress to more advanced concepts. As the children progress through Prep they move on to text-based programming languages such as HTML and Python.
AI (Artificial Intelligence)
As educators in a digital world, we at Hilden Oaks Prep, have become accustomed to the rapidly changing nature of technology. However, the pace at which ‘AI’ has raced into the public eye has taken many of us by surprise. Please read some thoughts here
