The children at Hilden Oaks are positively encouraged to interact with the wider community, beyond the school gates. Pupils in Forms 3 and 4 regularly give music performances to ‘senior friends’ at Derwent Day Centre at Tonbridge Baptist Church and Churchill Retirement Living in Tonbridge. There are doubtless benefits to both young and old in these social interactions.
In 2019, Form 1 made a special poppy wreath, and four children represented the school in laying the wreath during the special Remembrance Service in Tonbridge, This is something we plan to repeat.
Our annual Harvest Festival service held at St Saviour’s Church sees food donations going towards Christmas hampers made up by the Tonbridge Lions Club for local families in need.
We also hold regular charity days for Macmillan, Children in Need, Save the Children, NSPCC , the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and other one-off appeals. In addition the proceeds from Form 6’s Young Enterprise initiative are split amongst their chosen charities each year.
