Making a Splash!
Trinity term launched with a splash as Form 6 enjoyed a geography field trip to investigate the River Darent at Horton Kirby Environmental Field Centre on Tuesday. After observing and measuring the depth and flow of the river at different points, the children then collected samples to see whether there was evidence of creatures that only grow in the cleanest of rivers. They were delighted to be able to confirm the river is in very good health. Later, the class used microscopes to investigate whether different rocks were porous or impermeable, which explained how the source of the river began from springs in Westerham. They finished the afternoon by creating their own mini rivers and watched closely to see what happened when man-made barriers were added. A great way to start the term!
