Developing Gross and Fine Motor Skills for Handwriting
Gross and fine motor skills are prerequisites for writing, so the children in Kindergarten have been doing some exercises to help develop, build and strengthen their muscles, ready for writing activities.
Using their 'pinchy' fingers they planted some flower seeds in the recycled milk bottle cartons. Using their whole body strength, they practised bending and stretching as they made large anti-clockwise circular movements with their arms against the fence. Throwing bean bags at a target required lots of upper body strength.
The children in Form 2 have also been honing their skills by writing vertically over a bumpy surface, concentrating on using a tripod grip.
