Diwali
Ahead of Diwali, which takes place from 31st October - 1st November, we welcomed Mrs Pattenshetti to our assembly on Monday, to explain how this Hindu festival of lights is celebrated. Everyone found out how important it is to clean the house ready for an important guest - goddess Laxmi. This goddess is honoured as the bringer of wealth in the form or money and knowledge. The house is also decorated with flowers, rangoli patterns are drawn on the floor, and a row of diva lamps are placed outside or in windows, ready to be lit. Families meet to share meals and exchange gifts. The children liked the idea that eating sweets was also an important part of Diwali celebrations and they presented some sweets to Mrs Pattenshetti, to thank her for sharing her insights with us.
Following this, the children in Reception were inspired and created their own rangoli patterns.
