Advent Calendars

As part of learning about 'Festivals of Light' this term, the children in Forms 1 and 2 made a different type of advent calendar. It is cross between an advent calendar and an advent wreath where each of the five doors represents the Advent candles - Hope, Peace, Love & Joy with Jesus, light of the world at the centre. 'Adventus' means arrival and they found out that whilst most of the class were looking forward to the arrival of Santa, Christians will be counting down to the arrival of Jesus. The giving of gifts represents the three gifts given to Jesus by the Wise Men, when he was born. Christmas is a Christian celebration, but the season has become a time when people of faith, or no faith, give gifts to each other and to charities.
